Education Projects

BEIC is supporting the reforms in Azerbaijan’s higher education system and conducted several projects in this sphere:

 

  1. Establishing of the Social Work Master’s Program at Baku State University (2003-2005), supported by OSI AF Azerbaijan

 
As a result of this three year project two year Master Program on Social Work was established at the Department of Social Sciences and Psychology of the Baku State University. The project was implemented in partnership with Columbia University and Washington University St Lois Schools of Social Work.  

  2. Student Participation at Azerbaijani Universities (2007), supported by CRS (Catholic Relief Services)


 Within the scope of this project the activity of students and student organizations in 9 universities situated in Baku was researched. The emphasis was made Bologna process constituent on student participation in the governance of universities. Recommendations were made for the Ministry of Education and Universities administration, information was given to the general public.

 

 3. Bologna Process Monitoring in Azerbaijan (2008), supported by OSI AF Azerbaijan

 

Within the framework of this project the situation with the implementation of the Bologna process during 2005-2007 in 5 Azerbaijani universities was researched,  level, methods, effectiveness of implementation were studied, recommendations were made for the Ministry of Education and Universities administration, information was given to the general public.

 4. Analysis of the new Law on Education (2009), supported by OSI AF Azerbaijan


The problems with the legal basis of the educational laws in Azerbaijan in regard of integration to the European education area were revealed, the ways of the solution of these problems were worked out, the attitude of the public to the new Basic Law on Education was researched, recommendations were made for the working out of the forthcoming Laws on General, Secondary and Higher Education and other laws for Parliament Committee on Science and Education, Ministry of Education. 

 

 5. Quality Assurance at Azerbaijani Universities (2010), supported by OSI AF Azerbaijan

 

Comparative research of the Quality Assurance mechanisms at Azerbaijani universities and universities abroad was made, the problems with Quality Assurance in Higher Education in Azerbaijan were revealed, the ways of solution of these problems were worked out. Recommendations were made to the Parliament Committee on Science and Education, Ministry of Education and universities. 

 6. Fostering youth leadership on economic reform, Educating University-age Youth on Economic and Democratic Reform (2013), supported by NED

 

10 months training program in partnership with CIPE and EDF for university students and graduates age 18-25 focused on: phase 1 - principles of economic and development reform, entrepreneurship, phase 2 - communication and advocacy skills. The seminars took place two times a month, followed by online consultations and small grants program. At the end of the program the successful participants got certificates and currently are working on projects supported by the program.
